Jesus Gives Sight to the Man Born Blind
John 9:1-41

“When it comes to human dignity, we cannot make compromises.”
– Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, 2005

What has stood out to me from this chapter of the gospel is the idea of acceptance. The blind man is shunned by others, as if his inborn handicap was caused by a fault he and/or his family had committed. Jesus gives sight to the blind man, so that he may see life for the first time. He truly gives insight to those around him. Before, the people did not relate to the blind man and saw him as lesser than themselves, but they were taught that he was their equal. We need this same understanding and insight in the world today. Because of racism, sexism, economic status, insecurity, and fear, we look to find differences between us and the rest of the world. We need to remember that we are all part of the human family and have to share our common home, the Earth.
