Description

The image for this poster comes from a painting I made in 1986, called Each Time I Think of You. I revisited the artwork, enhancing and developing it for my 2010 serigraph, MADONNA OF THE HARVEST.

For the text above the image, I selected the passage from Leviticus 19:34, “The immigrant who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the immigrant as yourself, for you were immigrants in the land of Egypt.”

Below the image, I used text hand-written by a mother from Guatemala who was separated from her children when they entered the United States. In her lawsuit, she is only identified by her initials, M.G.U., but I thought her testimony was so powerful, I wanted to share what she wrote. The English translation of her words is: “I do not know when I will see my children again. Each minute that I am separated from my children is anguish.”
